I could never forget the day, May, 18th, 2012, when I received the scholarship offer from Hinrich Foundation to study in Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). After a 2-month application process, I was surprised when I was chosen as one of the three Hinrich Global Trade Scholars among numerous excellent fellow students.

With a thankful and nervous heart, I started my Hong Kong journey in September, 2012. Now recalling the last 5 months, I would sincerely and gratefully declare that I am refreshing myself in a brand-new and vibrant world which I could have never imagined — Hinrich Foundation was the key to open the door to an amazing new world. Studying in HKBU means a close observation of different social systems, values, and even language. Many first-time experiences in my life happened during the last several months because of Hinrich Foundation. Apart from receiving education from a prestigious university, I received many precious opportunities to participate in famous events in Hong Kong.

Attending the seminar ”Rise of Aung San Suu Kyi” held by Asia Society Hong Kong Center was be the most unforgettable event for me. Not only because of the excellent speech, but it was the first time that I had a chance to observe real world business people socializing which I could only saw in movies before. The seminar offered a platform for business people to socialize with each other, exchange name cards, and explore future investment and business cooperation opportunities. And now I know, this is what happens in the real world.

What is more, being a member of Hinrich Foundation, I am able to learn through volunteer work. Having taken part in several Hong Kong charity bazaars and sourcing fair, I have gained better understanding of global trade, Southeast Asian economic markets and more importantly, a broader perspective to see the world.

Entering te second semester, I am looking forward more challenges ahead, because in the academic year 2013 I am working as the coordinator between Hong Kong Baptist University and Hinrich Foundation, in which I will oversee all scholar related affairs. Even more exciting, I will be offered the valuable opportunity to work as intern in Global Sources in the coming summer, one of the top foreign enterprises in business to business industry. I know this will be another fruitful and life-changing year.
