My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship

Among all the exchange program in my previous university, Hinrich Foundation is  the only one that offers full scholarship, so it attracts lots of applicants every year. When I first received the congratulation letter from Hong Kong Baptist University, I feel so excited because it’s really a privilege to be a member of Hinrich Scholar and all my efforts pay.

Why I’m interested in trade

In my hometown, many  factories involve  in trade business,  and this greatly improve the quality of life, so I think trade can bring along great benefits and worth studying and even becoming expert on it. With the development of e-commerce, I think international trade are under revolution period. So there are many new fields to explore and challenges to meet.  I was driven by great curiosity to study trade.

What this scholarship opportunity means to me

First of all, this scholarship offers me the precious chance to improve my education background and experience new life in another city during my 4-year undergraduate study.

Furthermore, it not only provides me a new study-work-study pattern with lots of related activities to get my feet wet in trade business but also gives me full financial and career support, which I appreciate greatly.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to

I wish to participate in some short-term summer programs in western countries or even work for a short period, about 1 to 3 month in any country around the world.

What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home

I took some special local food from my hometown. Some of them, for example, the sauce and reserved snacks were made by my parents. I think  It’s very practical and funny to bring along some local food from hometown to another city as I can share them with my friends here and enjoy the taste of my hometown when I miss my family and remind myself of their love and care.

My favorite hobbies and other interests

Latin Dance is my favorite hobby and I also like street dancing and lala gym. Also, I love photography, reading book, cooking and traveling.

My proudest achievement so far in life

Winning the Hinrich Global Trade Leader Scholarship for B.BA in Global and China Business at Hong Kong Baptist University is my proudest achievement so far.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life is

I got a precious opportunity to compete in National Competition in Computer Science but it was on my examination date. I was put in a dilemma that if I went to competition, I could not make up with my exam and scored null accordingly. I tried to persuade school executives and the board of competition to seek balance between these two events  but finally all my efforts was in vain. So I chose to take the exam after cost-benefit analysis. That was a difficult decision. However, three days before the National Competition, I received a phone call from the board of competition, they said they were moved by our sincerity and therefore would like to invite us to have an online presentation to help us overcome the time slot clash overlapping since we devoted a lot of efforts to the competition.

My future goals and aspirations

I am interested in international brand management, innovative product and new market development.

How I plan to give back and help others

I want to offer business units or organizations valuable information and advice from my observation and academic study.  I also want to carry out effective marketing plan or development project to help traders find their target customers or partners, to explore new possibility in different phrases of international trade.

Personal statement

“We are all in the gutters, but some of us are looking at the stars” with heroic dream in exhaustive life, I just keep fighting and believe something good will happen, love life as it is.

Story about Yanwen Luo

Unlike many other girls from small town, Luo Yanwen prefers to explore outside world rather than stick to the hometown and live a peaceful life. She would insist on pursuing higher education and personal achievement towards self-actualization.  She is going to complete my study to achieve BA, BEc and BBA degree in her undergraduate study and prepare for the future job in global trade.

So far, her life is full of love, care and luck. She does not take them for granted and hold it as a base to shelter from or strong reason to be the weak.  In every challenges, she learns from reality and risks.  In every cooperation, she learns from her parents, friends, teammates and lover. It is very important to pursue life-long learning from different aspects.
