My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship

My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship:It was the best day of my life. My journey to achieve this scholarship was full of obstacles as it took 11 months to be finalized. The day when I came to know that finally I had been awarded this prestigious scholarship, my first thought was everything is possible if one can dream and try hard until it is achieved.

Why I’m interested in trade

Trade helps countries to grow their economies, create jobs and reduce poverty, gradually bringing about a prosperous and healthy world economy. Therefore, I want to be a trade leader to boost the growth of my country and make positive changes for the world economic development.

What this scholarship opportunity means to me

The scholarship is a corridor that connects me to the city where I can access to global trade, learn about the latest technology and enrich my experience. This scholarship also provides me with a platform to fulfill my dream to have a master’s degree in a world class university as well as career development with a global power house in apparel, footwear and accessories – VF Corporation.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to

I expect to learn the latest cutting-edge manufacturing technology and methods which I can implement in my next career life. I’m also keen on experiencing different cultures and cuisines, while travelling to different part of Hong Kong, as this is the city where people of different culture lives.

What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home

Family is one of the most important parts of my life. I will miss my parents, wife and my lovely daughter but technology makes it easier to be connected with family through different social media and apps. My family always inspires me to work harder for the betterment of my life.

My favorite hobbies and other interests

I like to travel and explore new things and places. I like to take photos and share them with my friends and family through different social media.

My proudest achievement so far in life

The most prestigious achievement for me was to be selected for the Hinrich Foundation-VF Corporation Trade Leader Scholarship, as this is the beginning of a new era of my life.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life

There are several personal and professional stories of hardship in my life. The biggest challenge was when I had been assigned to a new responsibility of men’s category business at my previous company – Bata Shoes. It was very difficult to compete with the unstructured market as my categories target rural customers with high price sensitivity. These types of customers always want the best quality product with minimum price, which is hardly possible for any structured company. Moreover, I did a market research to know more about my competitor’s strength, customers demand and market potentiality. After that, I made a concrete plan for product development, production and distribution. Finally, I launched my collection in the market after six months of hard working with my dedicated product development, costing, production, quality and sales team. The collections were big hit in the market, as these were more customer-oriented. My category business grew by 21 percent during the first season of the year, leading the sales among all categories. My boss highly appreciated this great achievement.

My future goals and aspirations

I want to develop myself to become a  footwear professional, who can contribute to the global trade sustainability with innovative manufacturing process and technology.

How I plan to give back and help others

I want to share my learning and experiences with my previous institute’s students through different types of seminar, workshop and courses so that they can develop themselves with international exposure.

Personal statement

“Be confident and work hard to achieve your goal. One day you will get it.” I believe everyone should have a clear  career plan with some flexibility subject to current situation. If a person sticks to his/ her goal and works hard, nothing is impossible. The Almighty is always with us to make it happen. We need just to initiate it at the right time at the right place.

Story about Mohammad Nurun Nobi

I always believe in early establishment. That’s why I started my career a little bit earlier during my student life by doing several part-time jobs, such as call center andsales agent, despite my strong financial family background. These types of job helped me to overcome my shortcomings in communication and people management, and made me well-prepared before joining full-time jobs after my bachelor’s degree. After completing my B.Sc in Leather Engineering, I started to work in footwear industry in Bangladesh. I worked in three different channels of footwear businesses, particularly export, retail and wholesale merchandising for top three footwear companies in Bangladesh. I benefited from these experiences by learning how to face and solve various types of business crises in footwear industry. During my work, I always tried to give my best effort with dedication for the development of my previous companies. As a result, still they remember me with respect, which is the great achievement of my life. My next plan is to see myself as a global footwear professional. But I still  have some shortcomings about technical knowledge of modern manufacturing technologies and processes, which I will definitely overcome by the Hinrich Foundation Trade Leader Scholarship opportunity to study Masters of Science in Manufacturing System Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
