My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship

My first thought when I was awarded this scholarship was: My dream is coming true, this scholarship would help me further my education, I would be able to help my family, and more people in my country. This would brighten my future with my career. Furthermore I am telling to myself to do my best for studying and about trade to promote sustainable development to lift my country out from least developed country.

Why I’m interested in trade

At first my great grandparents were farmers, my grandparents were farmers, my parents were farmers; we grew corps, planting rice, vegetable and feeding livestock from generation to generation. As my family had changed from farmer to trader in market, my parent earned better on that they so they decided to support me to study. So I am only one who have chance to study higher education in family. As trading has become very important thing to my family and me. So that why I am so interested in trading, Trade is what I really like and it is the key device to lead to civilization of the community. And trade is also helping people getting better living standard, better income and create jobs.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to

As I am interested in trade, I would like to have experiences in trade in international career such as importer, exporter, trade communicator, trade policy officer, and even higher position as international trade manager is also a dream.

What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home

I took my pictures taken with friends and family (father, mother and sibling) with me to remind me as it would also tell me where I am come from and feel to time we were together and telling me they are waiting to see my graduation.

My favorite hobbies and other interests

Most of the time for me is studying while I am here. It is very interesting to learn new things and new words from many subjects. Other is playing sport with international students and seeing around.

My proudest achievement so far in life

This Scholarship is my proudest achievement in my life, without this scholarship I would have no chance to study aboard as its expense too high for me and my family can afford. Thus! It is my dream comes true.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life is helping people from poverty as I can’t even help only one person. That makes me feel with sorrow, I am so stupid.

My future goals and aspirations

My future goals are study hard and bring all knowledge and skill back to my country to help my people. Trade, jobs, and education are priority factors that I would consider as aspiration tools.

How I plan to give back and help others

All knowledge and skills those I have will help my people in create jobs, increase their knowledge, behaviors changes, increase income and better life.

Personal statement

I have said about this in Story about myself below.

Story about P.Keopaseuth

About my country

I am from Lao PDR, a 3rd world country, and my parents are farmers themselves, and we is increasing its integration into the regional and global economy. Another point Laos is an undeveloped landlocked country and therefore makes export trading is a difficult task, especially transportation of goods. In Laos, the transportation cost is higher than our neighbors as Laos does not have seaport or trains and the cost of gasoline is higher. So In my opinion, Laos is still far behind than the rest of the countries, it has the trade deficit for two reasons; First, Laos does not produce a diverse range of goods. Besides minerals and electricity, Laos exports a few other commodities such as clothes, coffee and a few crops,” Second, some of Laos’s exported goods are not competitive in the world market. As Laos being a part of Association of Southeast Asian Nation, Asean Free Trade Area and World Trade Organization is the challenging to the government and also all public sectors such as businesses, manufactures and suppliers. So I think we will face trade deficit for the years ahead.

I and my family

My great grandparents were farmers, my grandparents were farmers, my parents were farmers; we grew corps, planting rice, vegetable and feeding livestock from generation to generation. As my family had changed from farmer to trader in market, my parent earned better on that they so they decided to supported me to study. So I am only one who have chance to study higher education in family. As trading has become very important thing to my family and me so it made me dream of it to be a bigger trader.

My belief

On the mission to help of Laos; I have a question to ask everyone “Is there any ways for Laos’s exporter to reduce transportation cost to be able to compete?” but I believe in the mission “Sustainable Global Trade” of Hinrich Foundation. It’s might not all of the answers to the question I asked, but this is going to be one factor would help me further my education and expand my knowledge and skills in order to help my country catch up with the world and find answer.

First excitement

In school was be my speech about my first experience arrived to UPLB. During the international student orientation of Graduate School (GS), along the names of deans and director who was going to give the speech, only my name was shown up in the testimonial list. Oh how? I was very surprised how can my name were there without any noticed from GS, I had to give a speech in front of more than 200 international students and all deans in the hall, what should I talk about? Does my English good enough? Won’t I say something wrong? My hand started shaking for a while…. It was too emergency, I didn’t prepare my speech. How? What should I do?… I stopped breathing a while, closed the eyes and think about what my goal is and what I am going to do. After the MC called my name for giving the speech, I was walking to the microphone on the stage podium. I didn’t talk much just say thank you to the MC and deans that gave me a chance to speak, greeting all students for a while and my main messages was “I come here I have to change and I want everyone here change too, we have to study hard, I have to study hard. That is not only for me, it’s also for my family, my people and my country”.

Well

I would like to tell my reader that now studying is the first thing I have to focus on, I would work hard and promise to do the best I can. It’s not only for me; it is also for my family, my people and my country. And thankful to Hinrich Foundation is giving me a best chance to help me climb on to my dream with a better future through global trading and also with a very nice welcome party from Alex, who is our program manager and Hinrich team

Thank you! Thank you! Khop chai lai lai!
