This Center of Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) report written by Scott Kennedy develops a baseline analysis of innovation in China. It systematically examines national trends in China, while placing the country in comparative perspective. 

The report presents data on innovation inputs, such as finance. It also provides data on a number of innovation outputs, including intellectual property and commercial performance.  The numerical data are supplemented by interviews with business executives, industry analysts, investors, and government officials in China and the United States.
