Hinrich Scholarship

Read my story here

My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship was: I couldn’t express more of excitement when I was awarded this scholarship. It is not only a golden opportunity to receive high quality of education in HK but also to benefit from the work integrated learning program, which lays a solid foundation in my future career life.

I’m interested in trade because: I hold the opinion that through trade we can have a positive impact on different people in different countries. And I am always on my way of making a difference in daily life, no matter how trivial the difference is.

What this scholarship opportunity means to me: The scholarship serves as a broad platform for me to own a broader view of and deepen my understanding of knowledge I’ve already learned. And it also aims at cultivating interdisciplinary talents, which is in line with what I am in pursuit of.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to include: I harbor the idea of traveling to Singapore and some developed countries to experience the various customs and, most importantly, learn their professional knowledge related to trade. Unlike the study of medieval poetry, learning the subject of trade marks the first step on the road to real practice.

What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home and why: I will bring a book named Nankinese written by a well-known Chinese writer called Yezhaoyan. In this book, it not only describes local customs and practices in my hometown Nanjing but also provides deep understanding regarding to natives’ daily life. Whenever I read this book, it reminds me of my beloved hometown and my families.

My favorite hobbies and other interests I am passionate about are: My favorite hobby is street dance. As far as I’m concerned, it is not only a sport that shapes your body figure, but also relieves stress. Its biggest advantage is that it doesn’t require any facilities, you can dance whenever, wherever you want to.

My proudest achievement so far in life is: I applied for the Hinrich Foundation’s scholarship program when I was a year-2 student in a mainland university. I am proud of my courage to try even when other people thought it is nearly impossible. I am proud of my courage to try even when I knew how tough it would be to graduate in both universities with two degrees.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life is: Being a team leader in the Voluntary Team for foreign teachers in SEIB of GDUFS, I encountered managerial conflicts and teamwork problems. When it comes to voluntary work without any compensations, to make team members believe in you and follow your orders is really a tough job.

My future goals and aspirations include: I firmly believe that the students are able to dedicate themselves for making the world a better place. It is also an achievement to me when my words positively influence someone around me thought unintentionally, no matter how small the difference is.

I plan to give back and help others by: As far as I’m concerned, donation is the most simple and cheapest way of helping others. Far from that, trade has more influential power to have a positive impact on people, such as creating job opportunities in poverty-stricken regions.

Personal statement: It is a great honor to be a scholar of Hinrich Foundation. I am not only able to receive high quality of education in HK but also benefited from the work integrated learning program, which lays a solid foundation in my future career life. Being a scholar also means communicating with scholars from different countries, which enhances my communicating skills and forms my perception of being as a global-villager. Harboring the idea of acting ethically, I am on my way of advancing. Fortunately, the Hinrich Foundation offers a golden opportunity.
