My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship

My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship:I was told that this scholarship was not open for Indian citizens and suddenly on one sunny day while scrolling down the buttons on my laptop to check emails, I received a call from my director telling me “you got it”. You can understand how it feels when you  learn you are the first person in India to get this great opportunity, receiving a scholarship to study for a master’s degree in the subject of your great interest. I am very excited and eager to start this new chapter of my life.

Why I’m interested in trade

My interest in trade grows while working with Hinrich Foundation for the last three years. I learned how trade helps in improving; the life of people from very small societies to the economies of big countries. Sustainable global trade is the key to make peace among the countries of the world.

What this scholarship opportunity means to me

A year before my company’s director told me that this is best time for me to  attend higher studies as I completed four years working in different organizations. I realized the importance of this and the Hinrich Foundation helped me to make this happen . Getting the honorable “Hinrich Foundation – VF Corporation Global Trade Leaders Scholarship” is one of the biggest opportunities I have received in my studies and career. This will enhance my abilities, career and lifestyle.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to

Meeting people from different countries in university and learning about their home country. I also look forward to, traveling and exploring Hong Kong and learning about it as the “trade capital of the world”.

What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home

I will bring a locket with God’s photo in it. I have always kept it with me since I left home and came to a different city. It gives me a feeling of strength and makes me feel connected with my home, family and culture.

My favorite hobbies and other interests

Games have always been one of my favorite hobbies. Let it be Cricket, volleyball, basketball, swimming or athletics it makes me happy and fit too.  Dance is another thing which I do with great interest. I have always been active in sports and dance activities from my school days and participated in various competitions and won too (not all but some). I love nature, animals and try to learn about them.

My proudest achievement so far in life: Getting selected for the Hinrich Foundation – VF Corporation Global Trade Leaders Scholarship and studying for a  master’s degree in a foreign university is my proudest achievement so far.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life

I failed in the 12th standard in school. I was the only one who failed from the school that year. My teachers and I myself was very disappointed about my result, but I knew failure is not permanent and passed the class next year. Now I am doing well in my career and even better compared to some of my batch mates from school. One thing I would like to add in the proudest achievement column above; last month I sent an alumni form to the school and in response I received a message from the school principal saying “you are doing remarkably well in your life”.

My future goals and aspirations

I wish to work in the footwear and apparel industry and want to see people wearing the products made by me. I love to travel and want to see the whole world.

How I plan to give back and help others

India will lack a fully skilled labor force in the coming years. Also, many people cannot afford to receive an education and become skilled in any field. I would like to contribute my knowledge and wealth to help such people by providing training to them and helping them to earn their good livelihood.

Personal statement

‘Doing the right thing at the right time’ is what I believe the definition of ‘Luck’ is. I have received this great opportunity to pursue my master’s degree with the help of the Hinrich Foundation and VF Corporation and I believe it came at the right time in my career. I want to make the most of it and add a new chapter to my knowledge book.

“Failure is not permanent and the sky is not the limit”

Story about Sunil Bishnoi

My name is Sunil Bishnoi and I am currently working with Hinrich Foundation as an Export Consultant based in Delhi, India. I am from a small village Sarangpur outside of Hisar, Haryana, a neighboring state to India’s capital New Delhi. I did a three yeardiploma in Footwear Technology and received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

During my days in the Footwear Design and Development Institute studying Footwear technology, my interest towards footwear bloomed. I never knew making footwear was such a long and complex process before. After completing the course, I decided to have a career in footwear and related fields. I started a job with Reebok and worked there for 2.5 years before joining the Hinrich Foundation. In HF, my work is a bit different, but somewhat related to footwear too. In April 2015 while participating in a workshop and training in Hong Kong, I shared my interest about footwear with my manager and director. I really appreciate the way they listened to me and helped me to groom my career in the field of my interest by providing me the “Hinrich Foundation – VF Corporation Global Trade Leaders Scholarship” opportunity.

From childhood, I was crazy about shoes and always wanted lots of shoes in my rack. But I never knew at that time that I would be making shoes one day. Now, since I have this big opportunity to learn about the manufacturing systems related to footwear and apparel, I am taking the next big step to enhance my knowledge in the field of my interest. I am whole-heartedly thankful to the Hinrich Foundation for providing me such a great platform.

Now I amlooking forward to packing my bags and going to Hong Kong and discover new avenues in my life.
