To enable Asian businesses, especially small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) enter and thrive in global markets, the Hinrich Foundation and Leipzig University have collaborated to develop the Export Manager Advanced Training Program, a short training course designed for professionals with import/export experience who are looking to grow their business overseas.

Since 2016, more than 150 people have participated in 6 cohorts of EMAT in 3 cities, Ho Chi Minh & Hanoi (Vietnam) and Manila (the Philippines).

SMEs comprise majority of the total enterprises across Asia. Despite the many opportunities for SMEs to grow their business in domestic and foreign markets, SMEs still face some challenges particularly when it comes to SME internationalization and exporting activities.

Participants of the Export Manager Advanced Training Program will have the opportunity to learn from and be coached by world class teachers about the outstanding tools and available opportunities to ensure their enterprise’s competitiveness and capacity for development in order to deal with the challenges that every internationalization process involves.

Curriculum and schedule

Export Manager consists of lectures taught by Leipzig University professors, online learning modules from International Trade Center’s SME Trade Academy, and one-on-one business coaching to help address the participants’ pressing business challenges. In addition, participants of Export Manager course who wish to attend the International Business Acceleration business pitching contest on Dec.6 organized by German Industry and Commerce Vietnam (GIC/AHK) in Ho Chi Minh City, can receive extra-training on business idea pitching and presentation skills.

The winners will be invited to Leipzig, Germany to present the business idea during a trade fair event in February 2019.
