The Hinrich Foundation Alumni Association (HFAA) was established to create a community where the individuals who have been positively impacted by the Foundation’s programs – the alumni of Hinrich Global Trade Leadership Development Program – can engage and actively collaborate.

  • Identify potential beneficiaries for the Foundation’s programs

The HFAA will help give direction, open new opportunities and offer a networking platform to alumni who have participated in the foundation’s trade-related education and skills training program. It is a platform to network, to grow and to give back to society.

INSEAD digital transformation conference Celeste Zeng (China, HKBU BBA ’13 & NUS MBA ‘20) represented the Hinrich Foundation at the ALX INSEAD Emerging Markets Institute’s (EMI) 4th Annual Conference last June 13 in Singapore. The “Digital Transformation and Innovation in the Emerging Markets” conference included leading academics, policy makers, corporate executives and management students.

Master Trainer – Congratulations to Rotha Chhoem (Cambodia, DLSU MBA ’13) for being chosen as one of the participants in the 1st Cambodian Master Trainer training course from July 15 to August 2 in Seam Reap. The bootcamp aims to equip in-company trainers to plan, organize and implement effective training programs more effectively.

Alumni WorkSunil Bishnoi (India, HK PolyU MSE ‘16) and HFAA India chapter leader recently launched the Skoodo footwear brand under the company Jakaru Innovation, a playwear start-up company based in Delhi. Sunil leads the product development and sourcing division at Jakaru.

Wedding BellsRamzan Miah (Bangladesh, HKPolyU IPE ’15) ties the knot with his lovely bride Nadia Rahman Sonia last June 3. Ramzan works as Speed Engineer at VF Asia in Guangdong, China, while Nadia is pursuing her master’s degree in Bio Chemistry at Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Mini Reunion – HFAA President Mohammad Nurun Nobi (Bangladesh, HK PolyU, IPE ’16) and our Hong Kong- and Shenzhen-based alumni Linda Ma, Sophie Ho, Amy Wu, Wong Clare and scholar Saiful Alam Saiket had mini reunion over some Turkish cuisine last June 14. We look forward to seeing you all at our 1st HFAA Global Connect in HCMC in September!

Let us welcome Zain Abbas (Pakistan, INSEAD MBA ’20) to our growing HF scholar & alumni community! Zain is a recipient of the INSEAD Hinrich Foundation Master of Business Administration Scholarship and will begin his studies at the Europe Campus in Fontainebleau, France in September 2019. Zain is at the helm of their 30-year old family business that sells wholesale fabrics in Azam Cloth Market with a supply network in 100+ cities across Pakistan.

Juliette Li (China, HKBU MScBM ’19) is currently in Rome, Italy for her MBA Summer Term exchange student program at the Rome Luiss Business School. The program runs for six weeks and will end in middle of July. Her track includes company visits such as Bristol-Mayers Squibb, Fendi and Fiat.

Olivia Ye (China, HKBU BBA ’19) joined the 2019 Data & Media Hack competition where she and her groupmates created a prototype of a travel planning app named Co-plan. As the team captain and the online business student in her team, Olivia was mainly responsible for the project time line and task allocation, as well as PR and marketing plan.

HF Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade Following the inaugural Hinrich Foundation-National Press Foundation International Trade Training for Asian Journalists, we announced the “HF Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade” intended to encourage exemplary journalism that advances the understanding of international trade. The winner will receive a $10,000 prize and a trip to Washington, D.C., to accept the award at NPF’s annual journalism awards dinner in February 2020.

The #HFAAConnectHKxSZ 2019 event held May 11-12 was a huge success! With back-to-back professional development workshops, our first-ever alumni panel discussion, Tencent factory tour and the induction of new HFAA members, the two-day gathering of alumni and scholars was surely one for the books!

New scholarship infosession at CNN Philippines HFAA Philippines chapter leader Lorie Cascaro (Philippines, HKBU MAIJS ’15) led an infosession for the HKBU Master in International Journalism Studies scholarship. Held May 22 at CNN Philippines, where she is now senior editor, the event also included a CNN studio tour and a digital journalism training. Thank you, Lorie!

Silicon Valley Start-up – Jean Shen (China, HKBU MAIJS ’09) takes on a new role as Customer Success Engineer at Mode Analytics. Her role is to educate customers – mostly data scientists and analysts – about Mode products and analytical best practices, create end-user tools, and contribute to Mode’s open source libraries and API documentation. Congratulations, Jean!

Panelists For Effective Work – James Gong (China, HKBU BBA ’13), Ching Wang (China, HKBU BBA ’12) and Anson Yang (China, HKBU BAIJS ’07) did an impressive job as resource persons for Soft Skills in Practice panel discussion facilitated by Phoebe Lu (China, HKBU BBA ‘14) last May 11 at the HFAA Connect: Shenzhen event. They shared their experiences as managers and how soft skills make a huge difference in keeping their team happy and productive!
