Hinrich Foundation holds Australia-Hong Kong FTA signing celebration event
Hinrich Foundation was pleased to sponsor the “Australia-Hong Kong FTA: What it means for your business” event, organised by AustCham on March 29, 2019, at The Hong Kong Club, Central, Hong Kong.
The program was held to celebrate the signing of the Hong Kong- Australia free trade agreement and focused on the details of the Free Trade Agreement and what it meant for the businesses of both the countries.
The agreement, it was noted, promotes free trade principles, and serves to reassert the commitment of two APEC economies to open trade and friendly investment environment
The Chief Executive of AustCham, Jacinta Reddan, gave an opening remark, emphasising on the importance of Free Trade Agreements and the strong trade relationship that Australia and Hong Kong have shared with each other.
Following her remark, Hinrich Foundation Chief Executive Officer Kathryn Dioth gave a brief introduction of Hinrich Foundation and its mission to promoting sustainable global trade.
Jacinta later introduced Hinrich Foundation Research Fellow Stephen Olson, who briefly explained some of the key provisions in the agreement between Hong Kong and Australia before moderating a panel discussion on the subject.
The panellists included:
- Michaela Browning, Australia Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau
- Salina Yan, Director – General of Trade and Industry, HKSAR
- Ivy Au Yeung, CEO of ANZ, Hong Kong
The three panellists discussed the benefits arising from the agreement and their impact on the business community in both the countries.
The panel discussion was followed by a lively Q&A session in which the audience raised a number of issues and sought clarification from experts on the details of the trade deal.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks for the panellists and the audience by Jacinta.
