adidas leads the way in talent development with practical work-based scholarships
Given the challenging business environment and continued rising input costs, driving manufacturing excellence is the number one priority of labor-intensive industries now and in the future.
Needless to say, people in the organizations are the main source of its competitive advantage.
Without qualified resources who are not only technical masters but also are capable in production management in the context of globalization, companies will not be able to advance their future manufacturing.
Innovative approach to talent development
Poster in the reception of adidas HCMC office captures its philosophy on talent development.
The industry faces a major challenge in identifying skilled people, notably in the technical and engineering fields, in Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and other Asian countries.
To address this, adidas and our partner suppliers are offering scholarships, high quality education opportunity and a career development after graduation to people from those countries. Through this, we continue to build up local talents in technical/engineering fields.
This also leverages local cultural and contribute to the development of high quality local talent pool in our Sourcing countries.
Look forward to the future needs, together with our suppliers, adidas has invested into talent development and into strengthening strategic and core technical skills.
On one hand, this brings long-term competitiveness to the firm. On the other hand, it supports talented students to follow their dreams by offering full scholarship and career development opportunity after their graduation.
A German education – in Vietnam!
The Global Production Engineering & Management Master program (GPEM) at Vietnamese-German University (VGU) has served our needs very well. We started the collaboration with VGU in 2013 when they opened the first GPEM program in Vietnam.
The program has received great support and attention from both the Vietnamese and German governments.
The GPEM program at VGU offers world-class German teaching standards, the reputation of Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) and a relevant manufacturing curriculum. it is the ideal program for our talent development.
Practical study-work-study approach for better career prospects
Besides needed academic and theoretical training requirement at the university, we also aim to bring as much as possible a practical component into the program.
We believe our team will be extremely beneficial with “study-practice-study” model thru up to 6 month’s internship program during their learning period.
Students will have the chance to experience the real working environment in our suppliers’ production facilities. They can immediately implement what they have learnt and appreciate many other aspects in real working conditions to ensure theoretical knowledge and practical skills are linked.
This is also special way to motivate our students as they have sense of achievement by “learning and practicing”. Plus, this offers a great chance to be closer to their sponsored companies, building strong relationship at early stage.
Extending opportunities to Myanmar and Cambodia with the Hinrich Foundation
This year, we also have formed a partnership with the Hinrich Foundation to continue the development of next generation of manufacturing leaders.
Together, we are extending our talent development in our other sourcing countries – Cambodia and Myanmar starting with the 2015-2017 intake.
We look forward to mutual benefits of knowledge, skill and competitiveness this program will provide.
