VF in Bangladesh

Since 1997, VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC) has used the Global Compliance Framework to manage supplier relationships and ensure that the people who make our products are treated with respect and guaranteed basic worker rights, including the right to a safe working environment.

Building on this framework, in early 2013 VF developed a Bangladesh Fire Safety & Building Structure Plan to achieve progress in the following three areas: health and safety, training and capacity building, and education and community development.

On education and community development, besides other important works such as contributions to the Bangladesh Humanitarian Fund and the International Finance Corporation, VF has also established a scholarship program with the Hinrich Foundation to support internships and scholarships for students in Bangladesh.

VF Corporation and Hinrich Foundation partner to promote sustainable global trade

On Oct. 24, 2013, VF and Hinrich Foundation agreed to provide four scholarships for Bangladeshi citizens to study master’s of business administration and master’s of science in industrial engineering starting academic year 2014-15.

VF also intends to provide career development opportunities for the scholars upon graduation. It will also create trade-related internships for five Hinrich Global Trade Leader Scholars in the summer of 2014.

VF’s Vice President and Managing Director, Asian Sourcing Operation, Colin Browne, said: “We aim to leverage on the outstanding career prospects that VF presents, and the scholarship platform that the Hinrich Foundation has developed over the past decade.

“This will increase human capital in the regions and industries that we serve, most notably Bangladesh, thereby advancing quality manufacturing and exports to markets worldwide.”

Alex Boome, program director of the Hinrich Foundation, said: “Through this partnership, both organizations express their firm commitment to education, and human and economic development through the export sector. We are delighted that VF is actively engaged with us to provide more opportunities to bright students interested in global trade.”
