Valuable Experiences at Hinrich Foundation
It is the first time for me to work for the Hinrich Foundation, a foreign philanthropic organization. I am really excited and impressed on everything that belongs to the foundation.
Merle Allan Hinrich (first from left, seated) – Chairman and Founder of Hinrich Founadtion. Other members in the Board of Director from left to right in the first row: Kathryn Dioth (the third) – Chief investment officer and Legal counsel, Allen. The right to left in the first row: Alex Boome – Program director, Mark and all Vietnam team members who are working for Hinrich Founadation
I had very useful, interesting experiences when accompanying the Board of Directors from Hong Kong during the time they were in Ho Chi Minh city, one of the biggest city in Viet Nam. Beside Merle Hinrich, Founder and Executive Chairman at Global Sources and Hinrich Foundation; and Kathryn Dioth – Chief Investment Officer and Legal Counsel at the foundation, I also had the opportunity to get acquainted with Mark, Michel and Allen, the other members of the Board of Directors. They were very comfortable, friendly and open.
On the first day, my first task was accompanying Mr. Gordon, the captain, to pick up Mr. Hinrich from the airport back to the harbor. The very next day, I was authorized to be at the airport to pick up Kathryn Dioth, Mark, Michel & Allen. Eventhough it was my responsibility to take them from the airport to harbor, but Kathryn was still very open to me. She said thanks to me all the time for coming and picking them up. Moreover, she introduced me to other members in the Board of Directors. I was very happy and felt to be respected by her. How wonderful it was!
Wonderful team dinner with Board of Directors, Viet Nam team and the stories seemed no end!
We had a very close and wonderful team dinner at a 5-star-restaurant named Temple Club, with many excellent dishes which bring the colors of Vietnam cuisine. We also talk together about everything which happens around us in such a warm and poetic meal! I sat next to Allen, talked about many things and we had the great laughs together.
Global Sources and Hinrich Foundation team were having dinner & gossiping with the Chairman and other members.
We didn’t forget to take as many photos as possible to save the memorable moments of our team dinner, marking the visit of Board of Directors in Vietnam.
The next two days, I fortunately assisted Kathryn and Mark to their business visits, got more experiences, and learned how they worked and did business. And when we finished our meetings, Kathryn asked me what I can learn from those three meetings. How surprising, as we had three different answers from three meetings.
And later on, we didn’t forget to enjoy “Vietnamese Pho” and talked together. How interesting! With the motto of goodwill, openness and professionalism, I gradually moved up myself about the ways they think and do. All behaviors from them always make everybody feel good, comfortable but not lack of principles and professionalism.
Normal but significant moments with the guests
The next day, I took Mark and Kathryn to the airport to back to Hong Kong. I went with Mark and helped him to buy a Viet Nam helmet. Even though I think we can’t compare the quality between helmets from Vietnam and Hong Kong, but he still wanted to buy one. He showed me his motorbike with 750cc engine. How powerful and seductive the engine is! Then he showed to me the photo of his sweet daughter taking together with that motorbike. She is so pretty and tiny like an angel, in the shape of a professional driver. We shared some moments of fun!
Thankful for being a part of the Hinrich Foundation
How wonderful when I have so many opportunities to work, talk and go together with the Chairman and other Board of Directors. I also never forget the mentors who guide me during my internship at the Hinrich Foundation and gave me those great opportunities.
And the biggest and the most meaningful encouragement to us was a letter received from the Chairman in the very next day!!
