I started with the Hinrich Foundation Nov. 28. Just two weeks later, I can say that the experience has been good and I feel that I have already learned a lot.Welcome lunch at Amici in Makati City with the Hinrich Foundation team on my first day

Traveling to Manila
I remember preparing for my flight from Iloilo, a province in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines, to Metro Manila, which was scheduled for 4:40 p.m. Nov. 27. On that day, I left our house as early as 10:00 a.m. It’s funny because the truth was I was afraid I would miss my flight and forfeit my plane ticket.

I arrived at the airport an hour later after taking an early lunch. I spent the remaining time before the flight bonding with my 8-year-old daughter Lianne under a big mango tree at a park near the airport.

At 5:45 p.m., with the help of almighty God, the plane landed safely at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Metro Manila.

Mingling anxiety and excitement
On the first of my internship here in Manila, I did not feel confident and was afraid to make mistake and get lost. So I asked Lorie, Hinrich Foundation’s senior copyeditor who lived near the boarding house I would be staying in in Makati City, for directions to the Citibank Center Building.

When I found the building, I asked the guard the floor of the Global Sources offices. Once I arrived at the 15th floor office, I went to HR first and submitted my requirements. After that, I went to Ms. Jas, assistant content manager, who introduced me to the team and gave me an overview of the foundation and its programs. Ms. Carmela, our content manager, introduced me to members of Global Sources later that day.

Starting a journey toward personal growth 1I was apprehensive but excited as well because it was the first time I would be an employee, with my own table and PC.

The very first task I was trained in was optimizing images. I found it very difficult but interesting and challenging. After the training, Agnes, Hinrich Foundation’s artist, gave me images on which I could practice the things I learned. I really enjoyed it.

Before Agnes taught me how to optimize the images, I did not have any idea about Adobe Photoshop. Now I can share my knowledge with my friends and classmates to inspire them to work in this field too.

On Dec. 9, I joined the joint Christmas party of Global Sources and the Hinrich Foundation. I enjoyed that night because the facilities and food were good.

I feel this experience with the foundation is a good opportunity for me to enhance my work attitude and expand my knowledge and skills beyond those I learned in school. I wish more students have the same experience as mine.

Thank you HF team. I feel very grateful and blessed that Almighty God sent me to the Hinrich Foundation.
