There is a famous saying – “time flies when you are having fun.” It has been exactly one and a half years since I have joined the Hinrich Foundation and I feel like this past year has gone by in a jiffy.

On Sept. 10 2012, I officially joined the Hinrich Foundation with the objective of promoting the foundation’s noble mission of creating jobs via export promotion in Nepal.

In 1.5 years, by holding frequent free consulting services with suppliers, we have helped more than 70 exporters polish their business skills and provided a wonderful marketing platform where they can promote their company and products in an effective way.

We realize entrepreneurs are the backbone of a country and through export promotion, we are helping them generate sustainable employment for disadvantaged artisans. As I was previously involved in the export business, I have been able to understand the actual situations businesses are facing as well as their perspectives. I have used that knowledge to deliver assistance to them with utmost efficiency.

In today’s competitive world, export business is not easy There are many suppliers offering similar products at competitive prices. In the current context, suppliers need to meet certain standards if they want to grab international clients’ attention and generate orders.

The foundation is playing a vital role by helping exporters upgrade their professionalism, providing a platform where suppliers can showcase their products and acting as a bridge between potential clients and reliable suppliers. I am proud to share that we have been able to accomplish such awesome things in a short span of time.

Impacting the bottom line

One of the suppliers we featured in a short profile got approached by a Lebanese client via our Fashion Accessories Sourcing Report. The Lebanese client visited their workshop and purchased samples worth $350 two weeks ago. The supplier is hopeful they will receive an order worth around $2000 in a few weeks. This shows that a small effort on our part can make a big difference to suppliers.

Similarly, one of the suppliers we featured in the same report got in contact with a reliable fleece importer from China Global Sources’ Private Supplier Catalogue and imported quality fleece worth $15,000.00. The supplier is satisfied with the quality of fleece including price and plans to import the same again from that Chinese company.

Seven suppliers featured in the report received customized sample orders from export clients through Global Sources’ Private Supplier Catalogue and most of them are in the process of finalizing orders. The suppliers are expecting to receive order worth approximately $5,000 in the coming days.

As suppliers have started noticing the positive impact of our project, some have expressed their interest to participate in Global Sources Fair as well. One supplier shared his interest in becoming a verified supplier, paying a membership fee to be in the program longer.

A home away from home

All these factors enable us to ensure we are moving in the right direction and our effort is paying off. We are not only focused on what we do, but make it our responsibility to reach out to companies in need of our help.

Just like the suppliers, I have gotten the better end of the deal being a part of the Hinrich Foundation. Many people measure the benefits they receive at work by the money they earn, but seldom realize there are other factors that need to be incorporated to measure what they get in return for their work. The Hinrich Foundation is a family, a home away from home,. It is a place where like-minded people hang out, brainstorm, come up with simple but innovative ideas and make those ideas a reality.

Collaboration with like-minded individuals & organizations

After joining the foundation, I have networked with hundreds of individuals and companies, become a firsthand witness to the progression of businesses, traveled around the country and gained invaluable experiences on top of my paycheck.

It has been a fantastic year, full of challenges, connections, surprises and much more that I never could have imagined. Thanking just a couple of individuals for an awesome year is not fair at all; the Hinrich Foundation experience exists because of everyone involved including suppliers, partners, stakeholders, advisors. These are all people who bring the spirit of entrepreneurship and commitment to make their economies and the world a better place.

Here is to another year full of adventures, growth, impact and positive changes.
