Report highlights simple and vibrant designs

Makers from Indonesia offer leather goods with simple, minimalist designs to adapt to international trends and buyer preferences. They are incorporating these features with new and vibrant colors such as blue, orange, red and pink to differentiate their products in the market.

Suppliers offer a variety of leather such as cow and buffalo hide, and goat-, horse-, sheep-, snake- and crocodile skin. These are typically sourced from the provinces of Magetan, East Java, Wonogiri, Central Java, Garut, West Java, Brebes, Central Java, Banyuwangi, East Java, Jayapura, and Papua Boyolali.

Additionally, suppliers are focusing on moving up the value chain while improving the durability of their products by using genuine leather instead of synthetic leather and suede.

“Indonesia leather itself is a very durable material, but it will last longer if properly treated using tanning and waxing techniques to strengthen leather quality,” said Putro Agus Harnowo, export consultant for the Hinrich Foundation.
