Report features pairing of modern and traditional elements

India wooden craft makers are incorporating contemporary design elements into their upcoming models to appeal to buyers looking for unique, handcrafted wooden art, home décor and gift items.

Religious statuettes, for instance, will feature contemporary styles such as geometric forms and minimalist features. Jewelry pieces made of traditional materials such as coconut shell with metallic trimmings are also available.

“By combining ethnic and modern elements in their products, Indian manufacturers are showcasing their unique culture while embracing the modern sensibilities of international customers. Craftsmen use elaborate colorful designs used on gifts, jewelry and home decor items to honor the Indian tradition and exhibit the vibrant designs they learned from their ancestors,” said Abdul Rahoof K.K., export consultant for the Hinrich Foundation.

Companies will continue to produce models with traditionally intricate designs in bright colors to meet the domestic demand.
