My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship
Obtaining the scholarship is a momentous event for me. I am very proud that I worked hard and was chosen among all the candidates.
I am ready to start my journey toward getting a master’s degree from Vietnamese-German University (VGU) and developing further my knowledge and capabilities. I thank the Hinrich Foundation and Suntex Pte., Ltd for sponsoring my full scholarship to study Master of Science in Global Production Engineering and Management.
Why I’m interested in trade
Trade involves the transfer of goods or services from one person or entity to another, often in exchange for money. It not only involves business but also establishing relationships within and outside the country.
What this scholarship opportunity means to me
It is a good opportunity to get a higher education in global production engineering and management. It will also take me out of my comfort zone and into an environment that will let me grow as a person and as a leader at my sponsor’s company.
To obtain a master’s degree from a reputed university will definitely enrich my knowledge and experience of different cultures and lifestyles. It will also provide me the chance to network with different people from various parts of the world.
The international experiences I’m most looking forward to
I’m looking forward to gaining knowledge and experience from a multitude of sources that will enhance my capabilities and make it easier for me to work and establish a long-term career in Suntex Pte., Ltd.
What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home and why
Technological innovations and social media allow families to stay close even across distance.
To prevent myself from being homesick, I will take the following: Pictures of friends and family; Posters of Albert Einstein and other people that inspire me; Stuffed animals; Something that smells like home; Homemade food.
My favorite hobbies and other interests
My hobbies include listening to music. I also like to spend time researching new technology, watching videos on YouTube and playing football.
My proudest achievement so far in life
Getting the scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Global Production Engineering and Management in VGU.
The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life
One of the most important obstacles that I have had to overcome is having someone look down on me and make me feel that I am less important or does not deserve respect.
Having someone look down on me during group studies was an obstacle that I had to overcome when I was 15 years old. The experience made me want to improve, pushed me to become outstanding.
My future goals and aspirations
My future goal is to finish my master’s degree in Global Production Engineering and Management at VGU and work in a multinational company in Cambodia or abroad. I speak English, French and Chinese, and I would like to be in a company where I can work with French and other foreign managers or translate documents as part of my daily tasks.
I also want to have my own jewelry business, pay my student loans and get my own apartment or condo.
How I plan to give back and help others
I intend to share my knowledge with the younger generation to contribute to the development of my country. While working at my sponsor company, I want to help improve worker skills and knowledge.
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” – Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.
This piece of wisdom is one of my favorite quotes. It reminds us to apply what we learn and act toward success, rather than waiting and hoping.
Story about CHAN Raksa
I was born in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. In my family have 2 siblings and she is older sister in family than me.
I graduated with a degree of Electrical and Energy Engineering from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) in Phnom Penh.
In high school, I was very passionate in learning mathematics and physics. While at ITC, I studied and learned various things from my lecturers and my friends, who helped me know the meaning and value of engineering. I also had the opportunity to use MATLAB, AutoCAD, Arduino and other types of software.
One of the main reasons why I applied to the Hinrich Global Trade Leader Program is to obtain my master’s degree and thereby improve my knowledge and learn new things.
In addition, this scholarship is a great chance to step into a new world and experience a new environment and culture. It is also an opportunity to share my knowledge and the culture of Cambodia with students from different countries.
I want to be a good representative of Cambodia and my generation, to show the world the capabilities of Cambodia’s youth.
Another important reason why I applied for the scholarship is to help strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia. Through the scholarship program, I want to build friendships that will enhance the relationship of the two countries.
