My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship

All my efforts have paid off. It is a great honor to be accepted into Hong Kong Baptist University through the scholarship program of the Hinrich Foundation. I am looking forward to having new experiences.

Why I’m interested in trade

It is eye-opening to study the basis and patterns of trade, as well as how countries like China gain from it. Also, trade is a good way to broaden my horizon as a student of economics. It allows me to explore how trade influences a country’s economy.

What this scholarship opportunity means to me

The scholarship is a tremendous opportunity for me to grow as a responsible trade leader with a global vision while acquiring experiential knowledge as an international student. The studies also complement my background in business.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to

I am looking forward to the mentorship and professional development workshops at Hong Kong Baptist University as well as the opportunity of working overseas.

What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home and why

I will bring a family photo album because it will remind me that, no matter what obstacles I encounter, I will always have the support of my family.

My favorite hobbies and other interests

My favorite hobbies are playing volleyball, watching videos on YouTube and traveling. Other interests I am passionate about are extreme sports, shopping and climbing.

My proudest achievement so far in life

I received a Higher Certificate of International Korean Exam after a year and a half of study, which is not easy for majority of students who learn Korean.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life

I was determined to run 800 meters in three minutes. I often run 800 meters in three-and-a-half minutes. To accomplish such feat, I persisted in running for two months without giving up. It was tough but I did it eventually.

My future goals and aspirations

I aim to become a leader in the field of marketing to help optimize operations from end to end, from strategic planning and financial management to creative production and reporting and analytics. I hope to instill greater accountability in the department I will work for.

How I plan to give back and help others

I plan to give back by always doing the right thing as a good daughter and an excellent student. I also want to be exposed to international trade as a means of establishing world peace.

Personal statement

I was surprised at first, but I am truly honored to receive the prestigious Hinrich Foundation Global Trade Leader Scholarship. I now have the opportunity to develop my skills as a businesswoman.

I am also looking forward to joining the global network of Hinrich Foundation scholars and alumni.

Because I am fond of experiencing new things, I know this opportunity will open a new world for me, and I appreciate it a lot. With a strong passion for global trade, I hope to contribute to the Hinrich Foundation.

Story about Huijuan YE (Olivia)

This is my story, through which I would like to share how I learned to be responsible with what I say and make sure I can keep my promises. Honesty is essential in many respects, not only in our academic and professional life, but also in our interpersonal relationships.

I am a sports lover and often go roller-skating with my friend. One day I forgot to bring my own roller skates, so I had to settle on watching my friend skate. Seeing that she made mistakes in one technique again and again, I could not help telling her that, had I been the one performing, I would have performed better and committed fewer mistakes, although I knew I could not pull off the same stunt either. What I said was a lie.

After hearing me boast, my friend flew into a rage then required me to put on her skates and perform in front of her. My mind went blank but I had to prove my word. I slowly put on her skates and performed the technique. As expected, I fell down, also making the same mistakes she did. My friend looked down upon me at that time. Even if I said I could, I was being dishonest. I learned that we should only speak the truth about our circumstances.
