My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship

I heard about the Hinrich Foundation for the first time in 2015 from an adidas supplier, which was cooperating to sponsor foreign students to study Global Production Engineering and Management program at Vietnamese-German University (VGU). From then, I discovered that Hinrich Foundation took further steps to deepen the partnership with adidas and its suppliers in talent development for trade industry by sponsoring team members of adidas suppliers for MBA program at VGU. I was strongly surprised and grateful to be part of the staff of Shyang Hung Cheng to receive this joint scholarship. This proved the company’s belief in my capability and desire to develop me further. Thanks so much to Hinrich Foundation for initiating this valuable opportunity.

Why I’m interested in trade

I want to start my business someday. Having a good foundation through a master’s degree in business administration will be very useful to achieve this dream. It made me decide to continue my education at a university and study such course instead of Chinese language.

What this scholarship opportunity means to me

This scholarship can help me get knowledge of trade, and the social and economic conditions in Vietnam and the world in general. Using the information, I can make decisions on how to manage and develop my own business for a sustainable future.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to

Working with people from different cultural backgrounds, studying abroad and taking long trips to better understand cultures in other countries.

My favorite hobbies and other interests

I’m really interested in travelling and talking to my friends about the news everyday.

My proudest achievement so far in life

The most important thing for me is having a happy family, whom I can have dinner with after long working hours. Besides that, I have some close friends who are willing to stay with me when I needed them. Both my family and friends are the best achievements I got in my life so far. I love them all.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life

I stopped studying English after graduating from high school to take up a major that does not require the language. Eventually, I realized that English is still one of the best tools to help us get a suitable job. When I decided to study English again, I had to start at elementary level. I tried to fix my time to study it everyday. By now, I am proud and confident to communicate in English. In fact, I’ve been accepted to study a master’s degree with English communication skills as a basic requirement.

My future goals and aspirations

Successfully graduating from the master’s program in 2018, improving English skills steadily after a long time of study and be able to communicate in English with professors and classmates, passing the IELTS test with at least an average score, and having a professional experience in human resource management field.

How I plan to give back and help others

Introducing the Hinrich Foundation to all who are interested in applying for a scholarship to achieve their dreams; fully sharing my experiences in studying abroad and in the country with foreign professors with those who are concerned.

Personal statement

Today is a result of our decisions in the past.

Story about Thuy Phung

I have been working for about seven years after graduating from the university in 2009, handling a special position in a company. I had gained many experiences not only in the job, but also in socializing with people with various characteristics and nationalities. Then, I changed my career and took a master’s degree in national education in China for two years. The course had guided and helped me to be a good teacher, communicate and work with different people by applying tips in dealing with students. Coming back home with a good growth experience, it’s time for me to continue reinventing myself to work for the company after taking a trade-related course at VGU.
