My first thought when I learned I was awarded this scholarship

I was thrilled to learn that I was awarded this scholarship because I deeply understand that it’s a life-changing opportunity and I can better challenge myself.

Why I’m interested in trade

I firmly believe that trading is the secret to achieving better living conditions for people around the world. Through trading, different countries can specialize in different areas and people can enjoy products from all over the world.

What this scholarship opportunity means to me

This scholarship opportunity means that I have more responsibilities. I should be a good model for people and keep making progress.

The international experiences I’m most looking forward to

I’m really looking forward to travelling around the world, doing business with people from different cultural backgrounds and learning more about other countries.

What I’ll bring to my dorm to remind me of home and why

I’ll bring photos of my family and friends to remind me that I’m not alone. Their company will definitely help me stay positive and energetic.

My favorite hobbies and other interests

I am passionate about doing sports. Although I’m not an expert in any kind of sport, I love spending my spare time doing physical exercise. It makes me feel relaxed.

My proudest achievement so far in life

I joined a summer working and traveling program sponsored by the Chinese and the U.S. governments. I was in a small town named Lee in Massachusetts in 2016 for two months. It was awesome to meet people from the West and exchange thoughts and experiences.

I worked as a receptionist for an inn which required me to speak fluently in English and to greet the guests kindly, understand their needs and satisfy them. People there were nice and taught me a lot of things.

The largest obstacle I’ve overcome so far in life

I changed my college major from Hindi to International Trade and I put in a lot effort to adjust to the new subject. Fortunately, I fitted in well and quickly.

My future goals and aspirations

I aim to become successful in the field of trade. I will dedicate myself to promote global trade and to build a better environment for business.

How I plan to give back and help others

I’ve always been interested in doing voluntary work like helping and teaching children in suburban areas. I will keep doing so and share my experience with future candidates.

Personal statement

I’ve spent two years learning about international economies and trade. I can speak a little bit of Hindi and Spanish. I’m fascinated by the diversity of cultures. I’m a person who loves to be involved in various activities.

With all the above, I think the scholarship provides the perfect opportunity for me to keep being myself and being better, stronger. I’m ready for this challenge and opportunity provided by Hinrich foundation.

Story about Zhuoshi (Cecilia) Long

I took Hindi, one of the official languages of India, as my college major during my first year of study in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Although I later changed my major, that experience taught me a lot and made me realize my passion on promoting globalization. People from different countries and different cultural backgrounds tend to have a wrong idea about how others are and what others’ lives are like. I strongly hope that through trade, people can have a better understanding of “foreigners”, and through the prestigious Hinrich Foundation Global Trade Leader scholarship, I can devote myself to this issue.
