Hong Kong Baptist University
MA in International Journalism
Class of 2011
Being in my final year of studies, facing different choices, I was hesitant to apply when I came across by the announcement by Hinrich Foundation regarding a scholarship for MA Journalism in Hong Kong. “Give it a chance,” I decided at last.
Heading to Hong Kong, I study journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University. Hong Kong is a perfect place to study journalism due to freedom of speech, to get more proactive due to the fast pace of life, to be exposed to different cultures. Furthermore, I and the other scholars always felt secured as the Hinrich Foundation always provided us warm support when needed and gave us chances to enhance our skills with some activities such as volunteers at China Sourcing Fair by Global Sources, etc…
One year in Hong Kong passed by so fast to me. I did study many new things, did learn a lot, did make many new friends, did know about different cultures, did enjoy the fast life in this city of light, did equip myself with more needed skills. That’s why I always treasure this opportunity and always feel thankful to Hinrich Foundation for such a scholarship.
Coming back my hometown after graduation, I worked for Global Sources – for one year before joining Hinrich Foundation. Being totally unfamiliar with the new living environment at Ho Chi Minh city, I was a bit anxious and disoriented. Global Sources (especially my supervisor at Global Sources) and Hinrich Foundation team members, again, proves that I was not wrong when deciding to be Hinrich Global Trade scholar. I was embraced in a warm and supportive environment where I could seek for help from others, learn from them and have fun with them.
Life is so full with what is so called “opportunity cost”. Sometimes it is not about good choice or bad choice but about different paths. Once you make decision, the best thing to do is not to look back but to use up all what you can to make your choice a good one.
