Story about Ni Maung Zar
I do believe that youths are the future leaders and the ones who can change the world. Unfortunately, most of the youths in our country including me cannot find ways for the improvement of our lives as well as our country because of half decade of military regime which destroyed the education in our country.
In 2010, there was a democratic transition in our country which provided a good change for everything. As Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” So, even though I finished my graduate study, I could not stop pursuing further study to help my country as much as I can in a democratic reform. I had tried to do further study abroad.
Fortunately, I was awarded “Hinrich Foundation Scholarship” to study “Master of Arts in International Development Studies (MAIDS)” at Chulalongkorn University, the prestigious one in Thailand. I want to study “International Development Studies” because it will help me to fulfill my ambition to do the work at developmental-related-job in the democratic transition of our country.
The course design at Chulalongkorn university fulfill my thirst of knowledge about international developmental theories and issues. Moreover, I can learn a lot from my classmates from both Europe and Asia. In addition, international field trip to Vietnam, as a part of the course, helped me a lot to widen my practical knowledge of developmental process of a developing country.I do believe that the theories, knowledge and network I get from this program will help me throughout my life.
Without the support of Hinrich Foundation scholarship, my dream will never come true. The financial support of Hinrich Foundation to me is more than enough. Moreover, Alex Boome (program director), Mai Nguyen and Tina have provided psychological support of warm care to me.
Let me stop by using Nelson Mandela words
“A good head and a good heart are a always formidable combination. But, when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.”I know that I have a good head and heart. Hinrich Foundation adds a literate tongue or pen to me by providing scholarship to join MAIDS program. Last, not the least, I will remember it whenever I use a literate tongue or pen in my future life.
