Scholar background

Kiara Walters started her career as an Associate for PWC - one of the Big Four accounting firms – on the mergers and acquisitions advisory team where she worked with a range of global clients across multiple industries on consulting schemes for process redesign and financial control.

In 2017, she moved to Farfetch, a leading global luxury fashion platform, to work as an Analyst on the Global Strategy team. She was in charge of designing a market entry strategy to expand the business in China and structuring a growth plan for a newly acquired startup.

Currently the firm’s Senior Strategy Manager, Kiara now leads the global strategic planning process and project management for special projects, providing companywide thought leadership and delivering intelligence reports to the C-suite.

She earned her Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics from University of Warwick in 2013.

Personal statement

As I look back on the experiences that have created the biggest impact on both my professional and personal life, I recognize that they have always been ones of integrated learning. From absorbing advancements in behavioral theory and using them to inform a new brand strategy, to observing accelerated market trends in the new COVID-19 landscape and utilizing them as a lens through which to understand new trade patterns, I have found immersive education to be the most effective and rewarding.

It is for this reason that EGMiM’s fresh take towards “combining intelligent critical thinking with real-world practice” is the right fit for me as I continue to push my career to the next level. I hope not only to learn from leading experts and colleagues at LSE, but also to grow as part of the Hinrich Foundation alumni network through which I have found likeminded individuals.

Looking forward, my aim is not only to apply my new-found knowledge and education to my own career, but also to utilize it to make an impact across the global fashion futures community, for which I am an active contributor. As a mentor and guest lecturer for early stage startups in the fashion-tech space and for students making their first forays into the industry, I intend to utilize the knowledge I gain from the EGMiM program and from the Hinrich community to continue to prepare our industry for a promising, yet uncertain, future.

Ultimately, as an industry built on aspiration, I believe in the ability of the luxury fashion industry to be a force for good. It is my hope that pursuing the LSE EGMiM under the Hinrich Foundation Global Trade Scholarship, will support me with both the skillset and inspiration to continue to positively shape it.
