Alumni background

Zar Ni Maung has more than a decade of experience in market research, with a primary focus on socio-economic development. His expertise lies in conducting impact assessments and project evaluations using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

Based in Yangon, Zar Ni currently serves as a Research and Learning Specialist at USAID’s Agriculture and Food Systems Development Activity (AFDA). Within this role, he is responsible for gathering pertinent data to prepare research for technical sectors. Additionally, he collaborates with relevant stakeholders to design learning projects and establish feedback mechanisms for evaluating the training process.

Prior to his tenure at USAID, Zar Ni gained valuable experience through various positions including Research and Development Manager at Myanmar Citizens Bank, and as a Research Associate at the Myanmar Development Institute. He also provided consultancy services for the Economic Innovative Partnership Program of the government of the Union of Myanmar and for the government of the Republic of Korea.

As a Hinrich scholar, Zar Ni earned his Master of Arts in International Development Studies from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok in 2014.
