World Trade Outlook Indicator
The World Trade Organization created the World Trade Outlook Indicator (WTOI) as a tool designed to provide “real time” information on the trajectory of merchandise trade ahead of trade volume statistics.
The WTOI provides an early signal of the current direction of world trade and where it is likely to go in the near future by combining a mix of trade-related measures. Some of these measures include merchandise trade volume, export orders, automobile production and sales, electronic components, among others. The August 2018 version of the WTOI shows that trade expansion will likely slow further in the third quarter of 2018.
