World Bank East Asia and Pacific Economic Update: Balancing Act
The World Bank East Asia and Pacific Economic Update is a twice-yearly comprehensive review of the region’s economies prepared by the organization’s East Asia and Pacific (EAP) regional unit. According to the October 2017 update titled “Balancing Act”, the economic outlook for the region remains positive, and will further benefit from strong domestic demand and an improved external environment. The growth of regional GDP (excluding China) is forecast to accelerate in 2018 and poverty is projected to continue to decline. Some major downside risks include large fiscal imbalances, financial sector vulnerabilities and possible escalation of geopolitical tensions in the region.
