Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2019: Ambitions Beyond Growth
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) releases an annual report that sheds insight into the evolving economic, social and environmental dynamics of the region.
The latest survey report, titled “Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2019: Ambitions beyond growth”, calls upon the Asia-Pacific region to prioritise ambitions being the economic growth and invest in people and planet. It notes that short-term ambition cannot override long-term sustainability.
The survey also finds prudent macroeconomic management is needed to address near-term risks to economic outlook and create and enabling environment for sustainable development. In addition, Asia-Pacific developing countries need to invest an additional $1.5 trillion per yer to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
