WTO Reform: A China Round?

Event Details

26 February 2024 | 12PM to 1PM (Australian Central Daylight Time)

The University of Adelaide, 10 Pulteney Street, Adelaide Room 7.06 Level 7

The Institute for International Trade (IIT) at Australia’s University of Adelaide is organizing a discussion on "WTO Reform: A China Round?" featuring Singapore Management University law professor and Hinrich Foundation advisor Henry Gao.

In recent years, discussions on WTO reform have gained momentum. The reform discussions mainly focus on improving rulemaking on substantive issues; strengthening the regular work of WTO bodies; rethinking special and differential treatment; and overhauling dispute settlement.

While no specific member is named in the reform proposals, it is commonly understood that the process was largely triggered by the China challenge. Join Singapore Management University law professor and Hinrich Foundation Advisor Henry Gao, a world authority on China and the WTO, as he leads the discussion on concerns Members have on China and China’s reactions to the current reform proposals. He will also provide his thoughts on how the reform discussions will move forward at MC13 and beyond.
