“My aspiration as a global trade leader is to drive digital economy growth through impactful communication, innovative strategies and sustainable practices.”

Scholar background

Mavis brings three years of experience in shipping, logistics, e-commerce and marketing, with a strong focus on the business landscapes of Hong Kong and China.

Before pursuing her master’s degree, she worked as a management trainee at OOCL – an international shipping company – and rotated through roles in Asia-Pacific Trade, Trans-Pacific Trade, E-Commerce and Logistics. Her responsibilities included promoting and optimizing the online container booking platform, managing commercial functions, negotiating pricing for the Malaysia market, and conducting data analysis and market research to optimize pricing strategies and enhance service positioning.

Prior to her time at OOCL, she worked at HKTVmall, Hong Kong's e-commerce shopping platform, where she focused on product marketing. During her tenure, she managed the advertising and operations for a newly launched food delivery platform called HKTVexpress, and executed various promotions for household products within the mall.

Mavis holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Personal statement

After three years of working in the e-commerce and shipping industry, I have observed how digitalization has reshaped global trade. The widespread adoption of e-commerce has catalyzed traditional businesses to transform their business models to maintain competitiveness. Participating in this evolution has motivated me to pursue a Master’s in Media and Communication at NTU. My aim is to deepen my understanding of the dynamic media landscape and omnichannel communication strategies, preparing myself to be a marketing professional that can foster digital business development in the new era.

Beyond my passion for e-commerce, I am dedicated to promoting diversity and cultural inclusivity through effective communication and collaboration. In today's globalized world, businesses transcend borders and people seek opportunities worldwide. It is essential for companies to leverage the expertise and perspectives of individuals from different backgrounds to enrich collective experience and drive innovation within organizations. I am eager to take the initiative to bring people together, fostering knowledge sharing and striving towards a more inclusive and harmonious workplace and community.

I am honored to be part of the Hinrich community, where I can exchange thoughts and gain global trade insights by networking with outstanding peers and experts from diverse industries. I hope to utilize these insights alongside the media and communication knowledge that I will gain in my master’s studies to contribute to the Foundation, society and global economy, making positive change for a sustainable future.
