Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on global FDI and GVC

The outbreak and spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) will cause a dramatic drop in global FDI flows, with estimates suggesting downward pressure on FDI could be -30% to -40% during 2020-2021.

Downward pressure on earnings of MNEs are more serious in developed countries. Average downward pressures on earnings of MNEs have been particularly strong in the US due to the weighting of energy sector MNEs.
