MENUMENU

encouraging informed debate
through international trade research

UNCTAD’s World Investment Report focuses on worldwide trends for foreign direct investment (FDI), at the regional and country levels. Every issue of the Report has analysis of the trends in FDI during the previous year, rankings of the world’s largest transnational corporations, in-depth analysis of a selected topic related to FDI, policy analysis and recommendations, and a statistical annex with data on FDI flows and stocks for 196 economies.

The 2018 report states that global FDI flows fell by 23 percent in 2017, as cross-border investment in developed and transition economies dropped sharply and growth was near zero in developing economies. Policymakers worldwide should be concerned about this negative trend, UNCTAD says. It is especially worrying for developing countries, where international investment is indispensable for sustainable industrial development.
